Other Dirty Words

Inmate and Other Dirty Words examines the profound impact of language in shaping perceptions of those affected by the carceral state. This zine confronts the use of dehumanizing terms like "inmate" and "offender," revealing how such labels reinforce stigma and justify harm. Instead, it advocates for people-first language—an intentional shift that centers humanity, dignity, and the complexities of lived experience. Through critical analysis and reflection, Inmate and Other Dirty Words challenges readers to reconsider the power of words and their role in systems of oppression and liberation.

PIG-2_edited.jpg.avif
Pig delves into the etymology of the word "pig" as a slang term for police, examining its historical origins and cultural significance. The poem draws from the activism and rhetoric of the 1960s, particularly within the Black Power Movement, where the term was widely used to critique law enforcement’s role in upholding systemic oppression. By weaving together movement history, language evolution, and the power of resistance, Pig reflects on the enduring struggle against state violence and the ways in which words themselves become tools of protest.

T-Shirt Design

Over Black.png

Our collective work demands not only the dismantling of oppressive systems but also the creation of just and liberatory alternatives in their place. I designed this t-shirt for the 2023 Annual decARcerate Conference as a reminder that our fight isn’t just about tearing down prisons—it’s about cultivating something new in their absence.

Program Design/Layout

These programs were designed for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 decARcerate conferences, which I served as the point person for and planned. The conference brought together organizers, advocates, and directly impacted people to strategize and build collective power against the carceral state in Arkansas.

Lilac and Dancing
in the Eddies

Book Cover Design

I designed these covers for my poetry books Dancing in the Eddies and Lilac. Lilac is a chapbook that explores the arc of a relationship from beginning to end, delving into themes of love, loss, and the complexities of human connection. In thirty-four parts, Dancing in the Eddies examines birth, death, love, loss, and the dangerous work of becoming in the wake of dismantled dreams.
